    Cleaning inlet ports td5

    Hi Guys

Anyone got any specific ways of cleaning the inlet ports on a td5? i didnt want to hit them with degreaser as i imagine that it would run into the engine and perhaps provide an interesting startup

the inlet manifold is being cleaned in a parts washer.. so thats easy.... but is it a case of scraping out what i can ensuring nothing falls in? or is there a nice chemical i can use that wont cause issues....

    THe questions will stop soon

The only way to stop stuff falling in is to take the cam out so all the valves close but you will still have to do it dry, ie no degreaser etc.
I've use a long thin tip blowgun to do this. Use the nozzle as the scraper and give it a shot of air every few seconds to blow it out of the port if it's really thick.
Otherwise get a few cans of Würth brake cleaner and a good stock of cotton rags, soak tip of rag in brake cleaner and just wipe it out with the rag wrapped around your finger then blow out anything left after with the nozzle.

its a big enough job as it is already to get everything 'sorted' so there is no way i'm taking the cam out too!

i guess some very careful work and a vacuum to drag the crap out may help? i was only looking at doing the first inch or so of the ports... so brake cleaner should shift it then?

I'm assuming with a provent and no egr the crap should dry out and start reducing eventually?

    Thanks

No nead to take the cam out, just rotate the motor till the valve is not being held open

Does the gunk have a smoth finish?
Mine did, put it down to a factory self port and polish add on.
    Cheers, Kyle
