    Smeg the S3

    Morning All
Would a set of original steel D1 Disco rims fit and work properly on smeg the
S3? My neighbour has some he wants to get rid of and I was thinking of painting them white if they are ok, to dress him up a bit.

    Regards Ian

    Thanks Benny
I was going to get the original wheels re galvanised, but these came up and I though if I put a set of 235/85/16 all terrains on them and got rid of the 20 yr old 750/R16's, it would look a lot better with the new paint job.
    Cheers Ian

yes the d1 wheels look quite nice.

235s may just touch the rear tub as they are a bit wider the 750s.

I had 235s on my series with the orignal series rims (88") and they just touched the tub.

But I think D1 rims have abit more offset.

I'll have a look when i pick them up. I think the light on the S3 dash next to the washer jet button the brake fail/low fluid light? am I correct as it seems to flicker on and off occasionally the brakes work quite well except for some squealing every now and then. I had a look thru my book but it doesnt seem to identify the light, it just tells you how to pull the dash apart.

If as Benny says that standard series rims with 235s scrub, D1 rims will be worse. They have significantly larger positive offset. So the tyre will be closer to chassis/tub than with a series rim.

The D1 rims are good and strong and offset can be modified by a wheel works. Chuck one one and check before buying.

Have you an extra light or are you talking about the red light on the bottom of the Temp/Fuel gauge if so it is telling you battery is not good

As noted, D1 wheels will work. But because of the changed offset, the turning circle will be significantly increased, and it is possible that the tyres may contact the bodywork with articulation.

Give them a try, but don't be too disappointed if they prove less than practical.

    Thanks John/Rover
My neighbour is away at the moment, takes off for weeks at a time in the Disco to wherever his facy takes him. I'll have a look when he gets back.
Mrs H, it is a jewelled looking light on the dah panel itself to the right of the charge light/fuel gauge etc. it is redish pink when illuminated and sits to the left of the fan switch and wiper knob. Unfortunately I have left the lead for the phone camera at work so I cant upload a picture.

    Thanks Ian

found the light, traced the wiring and found it to be the low fuel warning light.
    Thanks all,
    Ian
