    Gear oils - funny quote...

I posted on another forum where someone was asking about gear oils.

This was a reply to my post:

FYI Mobil agrifluid and syntrans are the same stuff basically vmx80 is what I'm currently using and is too thin to offer enough protection you need to use an additive with it. Syntrans and agrifluid are basically vmx80 with that additive already in it.

I agree that the punctuation and sentence structure is atrocious.

However I was instead alluding to:

Syntrans is a fully synthetic manual trans fluid

Mobil Agrifluid is a "one oil does it all" high viscosity gear and hydraulic fluid. Non-synthetic (mineral).

    VMX80 is non-synthetic AFAIK.

I didn't know that you could turn a mineral oil into a synthetic oil by adding additives

    But Ben,
I am sure you would be aware of the well known scientifically proven axiom that

'If you say something with unfounding sincerity and authority - people will believe you.'

Id be guessing your 'ol mate is simply reciting something he heard from someone with authority.

Its a good one though... reminds me of that ancient forgotten art of Alchemy.

Only if you subtract some subtractives first.

No. If you add punctuation to this:

FYI Mobil agrifluid and syntrans are the same stuff basically vmx80 is what I'm currently using and is too thin to offer enough protection you need to use an additive with it. Syntrans and agrifluid are basically vmx80 with that additive already in it.
You could get this (line feeds added to make it clearer):

FYI, Mobil agrifluid and syntrans are the same stuff basically.

VMX80 is what I'm currently using and is too thin to offer enough protection. You need to use an additive with it.

Syntrans and agrifluid are basically vmx80 with that additive already in it.
    ...basically.

Ben, can you organise some of this additive ?

Put me down for a 20l drum, I'll just pick up some UTTO to put it in tomorrow, along with a new muffler bearing and an adjustable power band.

Oh, and some cross drilled brake hoses, unless that bloke has a line on them too.
