    MAF service life?

I know a lot has been said about the Maf already but what sort of life should I expect before something goes amiss.

I clean it regularly and now have 92k on the clock.
Is it worth changing it out or wait for a problem?
What sort of service life are other people experiencing?

    2002 defender td5.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

i have late 04 td5 with 68K and its dead. new one on the way.

Do you have a nanocom? if so the idle reading should be around 55-60.

A dead or dieing maf can give a little worse mpg and lack of power at start up.

What do you clean it with?

You can buy maf cleaner but some people have used brake/carby cleaner and it is to harsh and can damage the maf

    Thanks Benny IIA,

I clean it with mild detergent and a cotton wool bud.

I do have a nanocom and will look at the readout.

I may just order 1 as a spare and run it to see if there is any difference.

It seems the failure can be a gradual thing and may take a while to notice so I just want to stay on top of it.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

    dirty maf

interesting, i removed the maf from my d2 today, on visual inspection it looked ok so i gave it a good blast with CRC CO contact cleaner also the electrical plugs and sockets, never touched it with a brush or anything it was dry in minutes ,put it back together and went for a drive up the hills around MT Barker ,VIOLA we have a lot more horses back at work, i was amazed at the differance that ten minute job has made. give it a try
