Replaced the top swivel pin and Railko bush.
Railko bushes are meant to look like the one on the right, not the left:

Finished at 10pm, meant to be driving interstate in the tomorrow, and of course there were problems so a two hour job was more like six hours. Time to pack

I removed the drivers side vent so that the flapper could be opened. The connecting rod from the switch is missing so a more manual type of operation. Things show signs of warming up , so a bit of aircon doesnt go astray.
Last week I made up a new door card for the tailgate as the locking mechanism has also been fixed , a short tension spring to give the return stroke more oomph. Now opens and closes every time , no need for a hammer and screwdriver !
Best of all about two months back in an effort to find a non starting issue I replace the non return valve and bleed valve with a working /used fuel filter housing and it is still starting and running on lower fuel levels. Happy days.
Gotta love the cheap repairs !

2" lift went on today, and this evening I did possibly the most important mod in the vehicles build up....
I fitted my AULRO sticker!
Next week is winching time

Did the rego change over, new mate and wipers and some lovin!...

Last couple of days, wire up new led bar lights, weld crack on rear diff housing, fix up cargo barrier mounts, remove some redundant wiring, mount some reversing lights on back door, clean the car inside and out, change front disc pads, reset the 3 amigos, paint front bull bar, rotate tyres, remove old phone cradle from centre console, jobs coming up replace broken wheel stud broke it doing brake pads, 250K service all oils to be changed.

Sad but true, 'Daisy' the D1 TDi auto that SWMBO drives, arrived home yesterday on the back of a RACT tilt tray.

I was summoned to help, as "water is coming out of Daisy"! I toddled into town in 'Fred' to find that SWMBO was now at the hair dresser leaving poor 'Daisy' in distress, wetting herself on a service station forecourt.

I rocked up along side of 'Daisy', and after lifting her bonnet, there was seen to be a problem or two problems, the serpentine belt had shredded leaving a nasty gash in the sound deadening material under the bonnet. The water pump bearing had collapsed completely, leaving the tilting pulley wearing into a couple of the bolts that hold the pump in place.

Along with thinking dark thoughts about inferior quality water pump bearings, I decided that the best place to fix these mishaps was at my workshop. The next thing to do, having an ultimate RACT card was to ring their help line.

After a longish wait I got through to the girl with the melodious voice at the call centre, after I told her what the problem was and I needed a tilt tray to take the Discovery home, I was then told me "we will send a serviceman to fix the problem". The next phone call was to Alan at British 4WD and was a lot quicker, with the assurance that he had the parts in stock

After a wait of 20 minutes that did seem like 2 hours, the serviceman arrived.
As soon as he jumped out he said to me, "Hi Arthur what's up with the Disco?"
I know him as we are both members of The Land Rover Owners Club of Tasmania. We had a quick chat while he looked at 'Daisy', the decision was obvious and he called the Tilt tray truck.

He told me he had just come back to work after doing the Old Tele Track, Cape York, He gave me a brief run down on his trip. I asked him if it was true that some thirty vehicles had to be taken back to Cairns on a barge from Bamaga after suffering mishaps of one kind or another. He told me that it was thirty five and he nearly had made it thirty six after his snatch strap floated off his bull bar and wrapped itself around a front wheel in Crossing Nolans Creek!

His job done, he then called the Tilt tray and went off to the next job. Not long after he disappeared, SWMBO arrived under a new hairdo and we settled down to wait and wait. The Tilt tray truck really only took about ten minutes to arrive and after starting to give the young chap directions to our place. He said that he knows Broadmarsh well as he used to live there and his dad played golf at the local Elderslie golf club. Mum had to tell him that our son played golf there as well and still has his name on the board for the course record, Mum having just said that, the driver said "I know exactly were you live, I have seen him playing golf in your paddock", and away he went with 'Daisy" dripping on top of the Tilt tray, We piled into 'Fred' and went to collect the ordered parts.

Gosh! that was yesterday, now today, armed with the parts from Alan, I set about to repair the damage.
The belt was already cut away so we could start and load 'Daisy' yesterday, that meant that the pulley's had to be held by it's bolt heads to undo those same bolts and so a sacrificial ring spanner was welded to a suitable lever. Using this improvised tool it then was a synch to remove the bits and pieces leading into the waterpump.

The better quality parts went together well and after refilling with a 50 /50 coolant mix, 'Daisy' was started.
Joy! The belt didn't whistle nor did the idler jump about, in fact the repair is a great success!

Took the Phantom for a nice drive, decent 110km or so.
After being squashed in the back of dads navara for the best part of two days it was good to clamber back up into my nice leather seats and go for a spin
Really am wrapped at how good old mate feels with the new lift, I absolutely gave it the goods on some corners, and I felt just as if not more secure with the steering
I am however starting to get a nagging suspicion that my MAF may be on its way out, as it's nearly impossible to get the auto to shift into 4th under load
Ahh well, c'est la vie
Ordering my winch on monday, but might go get it dirty tomorrow
