I am on the verge of buying a 97 V8 Discovery automatic.
I just sold my 96 manual V8, so I pretty much know what to look for on the rest of the vehicle just not the auto box.
So with regard to the gearbox what do I need to look out for?
Someone said when it’s cold make sure it hasn’t got eight gears and that it goes into reverse without delay.
Anything else I should look for or test? Rolling backwards in Drive?
Do the Discovery I and Discovery II have the same auto box?
Am I right in thinking that the diffs and transfer case on a auto have an easier life from cushioned gear changes.
The diffs and transfer case on my manual had ‘plenty’ of play. After driving it a while I got used to it and could drive around it but it was horrific when anyone else drove it.
If this has already been discussed at length just point me in the right direction.
