    R380 Gearbox

    Hello,

I just went to service my 2001 Defender 110.. While Under the car I noticed that the gearbox appears to be missing an oil lug/plug. I assume that I have the R380 gearbox based on what I have read.. But I have been unable to find a single image on the net that shows the bottom of the gearbox clearly. Based on how clean the surface around the gearbox is I wonder if its become lost somewhere on route.. but I am worried if I can't drive the car until its fixed.

    Attached is an image.

Does anyone know what the part number is to replace this missing bit? I can't find it in any of the parts diagrams I've found on the net yet.

Is that the drain hole for the bell housing - where the wading plug goes in when you go into deep water. If so I believe the actual wading plug is screwed into its storage position nearby - or was it an optional extra.

It has been a few years since I have had a R380 but my LT95 certainly has the plug.

Thats the place the timing tool goes in, locks the crank at TDC when removing the cyl head etc. Just takes a normal Tdi wading plug if you are wanting to screw something in there. If not, then remove the bottom one in the pick (At 6 oclock pos) and screw that in there, that way IF any moisture was to get in it can then drain freely out.
