Question TD5 - effect of disconnecting the MAF

What is the effect of disconnecting the wiring loom on the MAF sensor? From what I understand from my reading, the ECU defaults to default values. Is there a risk of damage to the vehicle (particuarly a modified one) due to incorrect fuel to air ratios?

This relates to my issue at http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...wot-hills.html . I disconnected the MAF on Friday and based on the 30kms that I have driven since the problem has gone.

The MAF was tested by Justin Cooper on his Rovacom last week and didn't seem to be an issue detected.

I'm hoping to get a hold of a Nanocom to be able to see the MAFs values while driving. Perhaps it's an issue of exceeding 4.5 volts as others have experienced with the VNTs ( TD5 MAF Bypass ).

On aside note I read that the MAF effects the automatic transmissions shifting, but I've noticed little to no change there, happy with it's shifting both with and without it connected.

As I understand it, the default settings are rich and will cause the EGTs to run hotter and I cant recall, but it would be logical that fuel consumption would go up. This can lead to exhaust manifold warping if you are working it hard.
