    extra spotties

so i already have some spot lights wired up correctly, on off switch plus they turn on off with the high beam, i want to put an extra set on, can i just wire them from the ones already on the car or do i need relays etc for the extra set. Can someone please explain how to wire up the extra set in laymens terms, auto electrical is one thing I know not alot about.
    thanks

    Hi Ade,

As far as I know you'll need to run another loom of cable to the new spottier unless you have particularly heavy high current cable to the existing ones. You'll need another relay also for same reason. You should be able to piggy back the second relay off the existing switch as the relay itself doesn't draw much current.

That being said I know people just add lights onto existing looms. Not the best idea as you're probably exceeding the current rating of the relay and wire. If you go down this shortcut maybe put in a self resetting circuit breaker. I'd imagine it would be on and off a lot though. :-/

Any auto elec experts care to correct me if I'm barking up the wrong tree?

    Cheers

    Wil

When I run spotties I always use a much bigger cable and relay than needed between the switch, battery and the relay. Then as many as you want can be tapped off from that. I had a heavy gauge wire with a 100 amp relay and only 3 x 100w spots set up on it, which would run comfortably from a 30 amp relay. However if they are hooked up seperately, all via the same switch though, if the relay for one set fails, the others will still work.
