    intermittant starting Discovery 300Tdi

    I am having intermittant starting issues, which, following exhaustive fault diagnosis, seem to be related to the immobiliser or 'Spider'.

    What is the easiest fix for this? I have researched and found an article that requires significant disassembly of the dash, and wonder if there is an easier way? I don't mind if the alarm ends up inoperative, as long as there is an easy fix!!

    Base models without immobilisers have bridging plugs in all the connectors the spider uses. Study the RAVE manual and they are all visible, you just need to make short jumper cables to bridge the plugs. Essentially the immobiliser is the earth path for the start and ignition relays, all you end up doing is making the earths permanent.

    check your crimps

    Hi Charlie

    Our D1 300TDi did have a couple of loose wire problems.

    I replaced the crimp connections on two wires, one that goes to the fuel cutout on the injector pump and the other that ends on the starter solenoid.

    The wire being loose caused the fuel cutout to operate and shut the motor down.

    The loss of the solenoid connection wouldn't let the starter motor work.

    But both at once, caused the Discovery to be sent home in disgrace on the back of the RACT tilt tray truck !
