How about trying an earlier air filter (With the snout cut off). This is how my RRC ended up after dumping the pod setup done by the prev owner

Hi all, as my D1 3.9 came with a KN pod filter due to the way the gas conversion was fitted, and after reading all the bad press on these filters I was thinking of trying to fit either a ford or commodore air box, the reason is 1 the gas set up , 2 I fitted an extra battery, with controller mounted on the front of the inner guard and the coil is also now there, theres no way i can get a STD air box in there but the lower profile above options might fit. before I waste a whole lot of time has any one else done similar?? My other option is a Donaldson type on the front of the roof rack through a snorkel, the main draw back it at times i take the rack off..Any thoughts would be great.. Gary

Yep, the 91-94 3.5/3.9 D1 and RRC have a tin can air cleaner like that which just clips straight up to your MAF, should miss the battery with snout removed.
Any one got a 91-94 tin air cleaner kicking around in WA ??:-) Gary
