The air flow meter does nothing while its running on gas. Look for hoses fallen off around the back of the manifold. I have seen the main intake hoses split in half too. If you are running Impco (puke) they are prone to shattering internally on a backfire, quite common. Which system are you running?

Yup Impco model 200. Unscrew the lid (5 screws) and see if the lid or the diaphragm are damaged. I've got a couple of spares if you get desparate.

Look, it all sounds like ignition problems. Firstly make sure your plug gaps don't exceed 0.7mm. Secondly set the ignition timing to 10 degrees BTDC at idle. Thirdly make sure your dissy cap is totally clean and dry inside and outside, and in good condition. 4thly don't have the plug leads in tightly tied bunches, keep at least 10mm air between them where possible. 5thly check ALL connections around the ignition coil are clean and tight. I can't stress enough how important good electrical connections are for ignition on gas. If this doesn't do it you probably need to replace/upgrade the ignition amp and coil.
