    Maxi Drive Axles

Hi All. I have a defs 130 2001 mdl. The previous owner put the maxi drive axels in. My question is about the wheel bearings once the axels are installed. Are they lubricated by the diff oil with the inner seal removed or are they still greased??? I have some conflicting info.

    Cheers Jim

It would be best to ask the previous owner if he never removed the seals then no.
However if he did what Barry or Mal told him they should be oil lubricated.

It is possible to install maxi drive axles and leave the oil seal in the axle tube as the axles have a flat surface to run the seal on. Most people remove the seal and run the bearings in oil.

Remove the cap/big nut and you will likely see if there is oil or grease in there. My rear maxi drives leak a little oil vapour as there is a oil/dirt build up as I did not use a sealant or plumbers tape on the thread.
