Allison Auto trans, practical experience anyone?

Hi all, does anyone here have practical / working knowledge of the AT 500 series transmissions? After some specifics about governor operation and shift points etc among other things.

    Thanks,

    JC

Hi Dave, no just operational queries mostly, like the upshift points they say are selectable with several different governor assemblies, one I am interested in is the 2200 rpm one but are they a harsh shift at this rpm range? do they drop into gear? or are they a smoothish shift? I am angling toward maybe trialling one behind a 4BD1 and would like feedback on these sorts of issues before I bother going any further. I am aware they are 1:1 4th gear, no TC lock, and are pretty big but having never actually driven a vehicle with one fitted need some input in the shifting quality and power sapping level of them.

its an old school tranny and is in the same bloodline as the tx series.

Ive got the generic service installation pdf's round here somewhere

some info about them is available from the alison website.

    http://www.allisontransmission.com/s...t=MT1321EN.pdf

thats the basic install a unit data jobbie....

    http://www.bustropolis.com/files/dow...ansmission.pdf

    thats the operators manual

its got a similar setup to the tx100 thats in the m113a1 so the shift quality is variable depending on how you setup the pressure regulators and the shift points are adjustable by the same means BUT theres no official book specs for it that I'm aware of just seat of the pants reverse engineering.

    best guess

it might be a bit rough on the usual playdough landy front end but would push the sals nicely. and setting it up so that it played nice with a deefer unloaded vs loaded would be a bit of a cock about but should be achievable.

Id guess at maybe a 10-15hp loss through the box in total but as per normal that would be offset by the torque multiplication qualities of the TC.

JC I've driven them in ACCO trucks and they shift very smoothly and really can't fault them. Pat
