    TD5 chips and other upgrades

    G'day All,

I have now had my 1999 D2 TD5 auto for just over 2 months, it is stock except for a 2" lift and 245/75 R16 tyres. I am now looking at doing some power upgrades as I tow a 2 - 2.5tonne car trailer and buggy every couple of months and drive up the big hill from wollongong every day for work.

I currently have the EGR diconnected but otherwise the engine is stock, it has done 212k. I am looking at geting the ECU chipped, I have found both TRS and Bruce Davis to be the best prices, is one better than the other?

I will be fitting a P38 auto oil cooler to replace the smaller D2 cooler due to my need of towing and saving the auto from killing itself from heat. I figured while I was there I should upgrade the intercooler, I would love an aftermarket cooler but really can't justify the cost as I've heard my ECU for the auto will only be able to handle so much torque, Is this correct? so I am looking at fitting the D2a intercooler for better cooling of the intake, also getting a EGR removal kit for better flow. I was thinking doing this more for keeping the heat down in the motor as opposed to out right power.

Is it worth removing the centre exhaust muffler and fitting a straight through pipe, does this make much difference to EGT's?

    Thanks

    Dave

Best bang for buck mod. I did that to my previous D2 and it went like a bomb. I also got the British police remap (only available for Auto), and then it REALLY moved. When I put foot small children ran away screaming

    Hey Dave.
My advice is, if the minister for finance alows it, go the whole hog. You will not be disapointed, my car makes me grin like a goat in a garden every time I turn the key and hear my tuned TD5 breathe through that 3" mandrel bent exhaust.....it is an animal!. BTW, it is a BD chip/intercooler. They are local they are good and they respond. PM me if you like for more info on my mods.
    Regards

    I'm almost unreachable nowadays sorry.

What has been mentioned above is on the money.

D2a intercooler is a good mid $$$ upgrade.
    P38 cooler
Lose the centre box or fit a hotdog if u get drone (most don't)
TRS chip is better than BD from what I have seen.
    Run synthetic in the Trans.

Look into a Torque converter upgrade from Ashcroft in the future.
    Improves response and fuel economy.

Toombie works away for about 8 days at a time. When he gets home, he has lots of mail to attend to. Don't worry, he will get back to you.

Yes, I am another satisfied TRT customer...

PM sent Tombie, as I said I like your stuff and you know the TD5's extremely well. I'm not in a massive hurry to do these mods, but by september is my plan.

As for the 3" exhaust idea, I don't want my exhaust to be stupidly noisy, and from what I have read there is no real advantage going bigger than standard, just thought ditching the muffer would help it breath better and keep EGT's down abit without it been too loud.

My car is nearly as quiet with the big exhaust as it was with the standard pipes. Lovely 5 cyl growl though.

Does anyone know what tombie's ECU upgrade power output is?
Bruce Davis claims 140kw and 420Nm
    TRS claims 130Kw and 400Nm
