Mid range vibration on a 300 TDi

I have recently noticed some vibration from my Defender, only while under a lot of load, such as climbing hills on road using the mid range power. It never did it before, and I had to either slow down or downshift as it made the whole car shake, the only change I have done is fit a roof top tent, but at 285,000 km you always think the worst, well I do anyway.

Jeff, under lots of load I would suspect 1 or more universal joints for wear/ siezing. Also, if the vibration feels more engine related than drivetrain I would visit the valve clearances.

I fitted new shocks and springs on the weekend, and removed the roof top tent and went for a bit of a drive through Ourimbah State Forest. The vibration is gone, so I don't know what did it, the old springs were pretty sagged, so it might have moved the unis into a better position.

As said check the props (drive shafts) for wear in the UJ's. If excessive play is found replace asap. Id imagine with the dry conditions in aus you would want to be greasing them on regular intervals!

err, not for the last twelve months

and who was it that used to win bets (drinks) when living in Europe ?
They'd ask which city had the highest annual average rainfall, Sydney or London, then make a killing
