    Welcome to aulro

The background lights on the dash are linked with your park lamps.
The first thing to look at is to check your park lamps work on both sides.
The other give away is the radio/heater lights wont light either.
If no parkers check your fuses.
If they keep blowing I'd be checking the trailor plug if fitted for loose wires(shorting).

The above is the easy checks I do first, good luck in the hunt.
    Cheers, Kyle

If it is a Disco 1 it is the yellow fuse (5 Watts?) under the bonnet.(Drivers side). Lift the black plastic fuse box cover and you'll work it out.
Did mine just the other day. As alien d2 has said, it is also linked to your parking lights - which is more of a concern than the dashboard lights.

Bad earth, one or more blown bulbs, broken wiring, wiring plug or clip fallen off, blown fuse. Any number of reasons. If it is a modern dash the fine copper tracks that run the power on the back can burn through and may need resoldering, it can be done if you are patient.
