Cheers Hendrik,
Sounds like a plan.
a bit more research now suggests there may be 2 different camshafts:
CAMSHAFT - L/ROVER TD5 (>1A736339) LGC000320L $1,150.00
CAMSHAFT - L/ROVER TD5 (2A736340>) LGC000310 $1,350.00
Ok, the vin is a 3A, and engine is a 15p.
As I've mentioned before, any oil that meets the ILSAC GF4/5 spec really isn't suitable for diesel egine use.
Diesel use demands an oil with an HTHS > 3.5 mPa.s and a pretty robust additive package is needed too as loads are higher than in a comparable petrol engine.
OK, these engine use roller followers, but I imagine the loads from the unit injectors are pretty high too.
Might this co-incide with the release of the "facelift" models ... which had the injection pressure upped to 25,500psi over the earlier 22,000psi ?? ... higher injection pressure has to be developed by the cam on the injector plunger ... requires a different cam profile ...
Just a thought.
Kev..

The different cam/injectors/rockers is at the eu2/eu3 changeover point. (which is before the facelift over here from memory - the UK had the later lights a year earlier I think so it may tie up exactly there)
Going through the service history on this before it was purchased, the servicing was fairly good, although there was a 40k km gap in the service book at the end.
We immediately did it but obv the damage was done.
Will be interesting to see how much more damage/wear I find.

Thanks Simon,
may be in touch on some parts, but I have just had a major win on the camshaft.
I spotted a brand new genuine, still boxed in original packaging lgc000310 cam for sale by a Jag/LR dealer on ebay uk, and bought it overnight for 23poundsno one else had seemingly noticed it.
10pounds delivery to my UK address, and will get family to post it over. that will probably be 50 or 60 but still thats a bargain!
500+vat in the UK
Thats one part sorted anyway!
Have made some progress on this, will hopefully get it back on and together this weeend. Hope it sorts it out!
Currently have done the following:
New camshaft
New Rocker shaft assy
Set of low milage injectors
head clean, skim and pressure check, adn valve clean/check.
new glow plugs
head bolts
head fitting kit
all gaskets and oil seals
steel dowels
head gasket
Exhaust studs
fpr is only a month old so that can go back on.
etc etc etc
Lookingt good Pete, you'd be getting quick at these head replacements now...Disco is a little more involved than a Defender one though
Nice clean and meticulous work there, as always
