New exhaust
I need to get a new exhaust for my 300tdi disco. To give it a bit more poke i was going to go for a larger exhaust but im unsure as to what size i shoud get, 2.5" or 3".
What do other people recomend and what are the pros and cons of doing this?
Cheers
Weeni

If you have to replace the exhaust then I'd take the mufflers and cat converter (if fitted) out. You may wish to leave the very last muffler on to start with to see how loud it is.
I'm not sure replacing the exhaust with a slightly larger one in itself gives any notiable improvemnt? and there has been some heated debate on a larger exhauset not being as efficient and or causing issues with the TD5's. Not sure if the TD5 issues would apply to the TDI's.
Others I'm sure will comment but I belive the removal of the cat/muffler(s) will give the max benifit overall.

muffler change
Changing the centre muffler to a hotdog with the same pipe diameter definitely pulls better on my calibrated test hill. Next time would just put a straight pipe. rear muffler still in place. Front muffler was original on a 300tdi and only changed due fatigue cracking at both ends.
Keep telling my kids I am going to try a cannon when the back muffler cracks out but haven't seen one with the right inlet diameter. . .....

i have a standard 300TDi and i removed my centre muffler and replaced it with a straight pipe.
i noticed a difference in pick up straight away mainly off turbo ie: 1500-2000rpm.
i did this job early in the ownership so no exact figures on fuel economy but the impression i have is slightly worse by about 1mpg.
and yes leave the end muffler on

Hi I brought a stainless system through Bmi, straight through and small box on the end. I am happy with it nice sound and revs a bit cleaner, I just had to adjust the of boost fuel screw as it would go back to idle with a slight stall I guess that the less back pressure caused it
