The only cable I've ever seen sheared off was on a tmax winch and the mounting hardware was a small cable clamp that mounted on the centre of the drum. As for the rest mate i cant help you
Picked up a used Warn XD9000 for the 110 today. It doesn't have a remote, so I'm tossing up whether to buy one, or just wire up an in-cab switch.
I've never had a winch before, but the times I've been out when winching was done it was always from in the cab (usually using the remote through the drivers window).
Should I bother with a remote, and if so, any tips on where to buy one at a reasonable price (its the 5 pin version), or if there is a non-Warn item that will do the same job.
The other question I have is about how the cable attaches to the drum. The cable was already off the winch, and the eye is torn out of the lug. I can't see any obvious mounting point on the drum for it. Does it mount to the drum center or on on of the sides. I'm guessing its just sheared off the mount bolt and I just need to have a closer look for it.
I'm planning on stripping it down and cleaning/re-greasing as its definitely seen a bit of mud/water etc. Hopefully its not too bad inside.
While I'm at it - any recommendation on where to get synthetic rope for it?
Steve

Just check the location of the brake. If it's in the drum then it may get too hot to run synthetic.
You will always secure the end of the wire to the outside of the drum.
Never have less than 5 turns on the drum if you intend to load the wire up, some one obviously did this and pulled the bitter end out of the winch.
The remote is available as a part from Warn. This link might help you http://www.warn.com/truck/Replacemen...srrpl61-62.pdf if you need any other bits.
I reckon I'd go the in cab switch though.

Hi Steve
I now have a working, spare, hand control for those warn winches, PM me if you are interested.
I have now a single relay pack mounted in side the engine bay, replacing the four individual relays that were mounted on top of the winch, so while doing that, I also fitted a wireless remote as a controler.
I am leaving the wire rope on until I hear better reports on the life time of synthetic rope.
Cheers Arthur
