    Coolant Alarm paid for.

Had to take a alternative route due to a road closure,so the 300TDI was getting a caning. With temperature sitting on 92c,EGT at 550c all appeared fine until the low coolant alarm screamed its head off.Not wishing to waste time, topped up the coolant, only took about 300ml from a convenient roadside ditch then back into it again.Of course 10mins later off goes the alarm again. This time had a better look under the bonnet to discover the outlet hose[BTR9617] from the heater had split where it runs behind the head....difficult to see until the sound deadening engine cover is removed.
All the hoses appeared in good order...so this is a trap worth checking for as well as investing in a low coolant alarm!
I got mobile by running the inlet direct onto the outlet, topped up the thermostat bleed and the reservoir, temperatures all ok,but in the morning noticed the top hose was collapsed under a vacuum?Changed out all the hoses so hope all is well.

Too true,I put an Engine saver on the D2,it's reassuring to hear the little beep' on start-up,it's the leaks you don't see that catch you out!
