    HELP no oil pressure after cam change

    Hi I have a 98 disco 1 just did cam and heads when i started it I havent got oil pressure yet after a few bursts of 30 seconds running and I am worried is there anything I can do to help prime it without taking it appart again cheers

    Easypeasy. Shift crank to TDC, mark and remove dissy, make up a tool to turn the oil pump with a high speed power drill. A chunk of 12mm rod, a piece of hose or pipe to slip over it and a slot cut in the end of the rod to engage the pump.

    will that work on a serpentine engine i thought the oil pumps were a bit different cheers

    OOps.

    Second trick, pull out the oil pressure switch, fit a hose nipple and syringe some oil into the motor. A gearbox filling pump bottle works too. I've done this plenty of times in the distant past to prime rebuilt motors before starting up.

    still no oil pressure but I think I have damaged the pump when i did the harmonic balancer up i didnt realise the gear wasnt engaged properly and now i have bent the backing plate to the oil pump gears doh

    ok I have oil pressure now after i fitted a second hand timing cover but now my dizzy sounds like its going to self destruct and it is misfiring badly i think the two may be related doh when will it end haha

    1. Is the cap on straight?
    2. remove dissy and check the gear drive, and see if it spins freely.
    3. Pump oil into the lube hole using an oil can.
