Hello All,
I currently have a very basic solenoid system in my 68 IIA, with a switch on my dash to open or close the said solenoid, the feed for the switch comes from the starter solenoid which only has power when ignition is switched on, so I can't drain the start batt by leaving the batt soleniod open. When it was originally installed the isolator was wired to the indicator switch?? which gave it power when the ignition was turned on?? I recently installed the dash switch, because if I left something on (the engel) by accident and my second batt was drained to death, when I tried to start the car (turning on ignition hense opening the batt solenoid), power would go into the other batt and the car wouldn't start? Does that make sence? Anyway, now I can open or close the solenoid (which isolates the starting batt), from the cab and prevent this from happening. So I was thinking of upgrading to a Red Arc isolator and my question is... does this type of isolator prevent my second battery from draining to zero, which destroys the battery (so they say at Battery World??) How do I solve this problem without spending hundreds and buying an expensive and complicated battery management system, after all there is NO electronic engine management system in my IIA I need to protect??

Hi Tim, here is a way to use the SC80 and set it up to protect your cranking battery and your auxiliary battery at the same time.
Plus the way the SC80 works, if you auxiliary battery is low, the SC80 will not connect it to the cranking battery until your motor is running and your alternator is operating.

Mine also manages the battery in the trailer, it allows the fridge or whatever to draw from all 3 batteries still leaving the cranking battery ready to go at the turn of the key.
I like it so much I hoiked it and all the cabling out of my old D2 when I wrote it off
I'd buy Tims stuff again in a heartbeat.... headlight loom might be next.

Go with the headlight loom, worked wonders with my Defender. Have the SC80 as well and it is a good device.
Sorry to hijack the post, I am in the market to set up a dual battery system primarily for a winch setup and a fridge (when purchased). I note from the SC80 wire diagram that it accommodates the winch set up with some additional parts.
My query, has anyone set up the SC80 for the winch? How has it handled the extra current? Is it easy to set up? Reliability? etc. I want the good, bad and the ugly re feedback.
ps: the original poster stated his vehicle had no electronics to be concerned about. I have a td5 defender.

Hi MLD, I have a new Isolator, the USI-160, which as yet is not on my web site but if you follow the link bellow to the AULRO’s Verandah section, you can get a fair bit of info about this new isolator.
The USI-160 is specifically designed to use to join batteries together while winching.
