    Roof glass how to??

Thanks to me placing a chain rather stuipdly on my rack I've shattered the glass in the left hand side of my roof on my county. Has anyone changed one of these rubbers? are they hard to fit ?? I'm in port douglas I can get one second hand out of townsville i think, but I'd need brand new rubber I'm assuming.

    Any ideas??????

If it's just a rubbered in one (not glued) it's pretty easy and unless the rubber is really perished you should get away with the same rubber.

Refit the rubber with the joins as it was (compare to the other side) and then fit a length of cord (~3mm venetian blind cord is great and can be found in bunnings) inside the channel in the rubber where the glass will fit (use some masking tape to hold in place at intervals). The ends need to cross over and finish in a corner is usually best.

Lube with some washing detergent and push the glass into the corner where the ends of the cord crosses. Using three hands, keeping pressure on the glass, pull the ends out at 90deg to the glass which will pull the rubber past the edge of the glass. After the cord is out refit the filer strip (if required), the join is usually opposite the join in the main rubber.

The rubber, if it's the std sort of profile, can often be found in clark rubber.

Thanks so much for the instruction, the cord for rolling the lip is a great tip. do you think the best aproach is to push the glass from inside? I don't want to take the rack off.

I reckon the only way it will go in is from the outside, means rack off

Definitely outside, you need the gap of the filler strip to allow the lip to roll out enough. You can seal with sikaflex if you leave the nozzle nice and small and squirt between the outer lip of rubber and the glass. Put the filler in opposite to the rubber (filler joint to top). There is a special tool for the filler strip which is basically a handle with a loop of rigid wire bent into a diamond shape which spreads the channel and the filler runs through the loop and goes into the gap. Also at clark rubber (well 25-30 years ago when I last bought one) but just ask and I'm sure they'll have something. Don't forget the detergent lube.

Oh my! the rack off is a real real pain for us in transit. I might just tape the sucker up inside and out and hope for the very best ?

And mine doesn't seem to have a filler strip? the glass is very very tight in the rubber. Would this be a glued type? remember the 1985 county is one of the first 110s
