Thumbs down Oil In ECU Again

Well I am over it, Maybe time to look at another 4x4. Last couple of days the Defender has been a bit sluggish, so pull off the lid and ECU plug and oil residue everywhere. I guess I have just proven the so called new Injector harness fix does not solve the problem.
    So looks like another harness.
The issue I have is it appears the issue is not the harness wiring itself but the o rings in the connector where it sits in the head.
Has anyone had any success with just replacing the o rings?
Thinking of Viton ones rather than replacing the whole harness again.
Does anyone on here have the o ring size and brand type that would be suitable?
Also a supplier in WA that I can get them sent quickly.
Sick of the stupid problems these Land Rovers throw up all the time.
However may explain some issues I have been having for the last week or two and Nanocom not reading ECU on and off.
As said before this is Land Rovers most stupid design.

    Hey Craig,

I think I have a spare harness - I will show you how to fix the problem.

I will call in if I see you at home.

Hey Rick I am off this weekend. I do have a spare harness, just need to source some Viton o rings to suit.
Will probably look at getting some Permatex Black to try and seal the unit up.
    Flushing it now.
Will be interested to see how you have solved it for you.
    Cheers

    CraigE,

Would you mind posting the O ring details.

    Burshrover,

Note sure if you've posted your solution on the forum if so would you post a line if not would be interested in what your solution is?

last post I saw no one had come up with a long term solution

    Thanks.

I had my injector harness replaced 21,545 kms ago by the modified harness supplied br MR Automotive. It was explained to me there would be residual oil in the wiring to the ECU, and to implement a routine check each oil change [5,000 kms] until no oil appeared at the ECU. I have had no problem, and now so far no oil can be seen at the ECU.[ I still check every 5,000 kms, so far so good,21,545 kms on] Bob

Scott I dont have the oring sizes as I had a computer format about 2 years ago and that was some of the info I lost. I am hoping someone else may have the numbers and post.
There was a post and I did a search but could not find it.
Oil right through the harness from the injectors back.
Ricks (Bushrovers) solution is similar to mine, though he has suggested I use three bond 1207B sealant as it is more fluid and gets into all the gaps. This entails removing the electrical clips (black) that clip to the injector from the wires and then opening the little electrical connectors and sealing around the wire ends to stop ingress and also the top of the plug (round) near the head (which is the main drama). I plan to seal the wires back to the shield and fill the shield as well.
ATM I am cleaning the two I have. I reckon I can get them clean enough and sealed to use as back up units. If I remember I will take some pics.
It is the stupid things like this that give LR their bad name and the thing that really annoys me is that from factory it is a easy fix.

Dont take their word as gospel. I was also told the new harness would cure this problem, however side by side I can not see any difference between the two I have here atm. Will compare again when I get a new one next week.
The second one I replaced has lasted 65,000kms. I was expecting around 100,000 at least.

I replaced mine 90,000 Km ago and flushed out the loom to the ECU with contact cleaner. No oil in the harness to the ECU yet.

There is a difference between the modified and unmodified harness, and side by side it is very clearly seen. Are you sure you have a modified harness? Bob

I sealed up my loom using a special purpose silicone potting mix for electrical potting.
This is the one I used. It's not cheap, but much cheaper than a new harness.

Acc Silicones | Workshop Consumables | Adhesives, Sealants and Tapes | Potting Compounds | Silicone Compounds - ACC |QSIL-553

I went for a silicone mix rather than a hard epoxy so that there was still some flexibility. Otherwise the vibrations will eventually cause the wires to fatigue and break.
So far, I haven't had any problems, but I've only done around 10 thousand km so time will tell.
