    Defender Brake Booster Issue

    Gday

Landy has a few niggly issues at the moment

Namely the brakes. I know the Defenders have a problem with cracking the booster where the master cylinder bolts on, causing very average brake performance. My old mans Defender did this at 180,000

At 120,000 mine is starting to play up. When wanting to stop the pedal dips fairly low with not much brake force applied, after several pumps they feel good as gold. If you try to brake again 200m down the road you have to pump them again

    Peoples thoughts?

Can anyone confirm it may be my booster starting to leak, before I splash out approx $200 for a new one

    Thanks

    Jock

    broken brakes

    Hi Jock

It doesn't sound like a booster problem to me, I would be checking the wheel bearing adjustments first and run your eye over the pads although pad wear doesn't do this normally.
Any slight sideways movement in the wheel, forces the pads apart pushing the fluid back up to the reservoir.

( That pm about the diff, I sent does not seem to exist anymore, probably gobbled up by the google monster! so cant resend it. )

    Cheers Arthur

As Arthur said, sounds like pad knock back to me too.

Pretty common, happens a lot on rough roads or as said, when the wheel bearings have a tiny bit (or a lot) of play.
