hi mate which ems did you go with 1 or 2 i'm not sure which one to get they both seem to do the same thing only ones smaller and cheaperthanks tony
I'm in the process of installing my MadMan EMS into my vehicle. I'm going to monitor the EGT, coolant level and temperature and engine oil pressure.
I have a spare temperature connection and VDO sensor which I can use for either the engine, transferbox or automatic transmission oil temperature - any recommendations on which to monitor?
I figure the engine oil temperature is probably some what indicated by the coolant temperature. Does the transferbox oil temperature change significantly? I'm leaning towards the automatic transmission, I figure this would give some indication of whats happening when towing and bush bashing etc.

I monitor:
Boost
Engine Temp
Oil Switch
Coolant Level
Voltage
Transmission Temp
IMO Trans temp is critical if towing.....
The engine is the most important, in the sense that it is most likely to have problems, but with the amount of monitoring you already have for it, the need for oil temperature as well is fairly low. On the other hand, it is difficult to decide which of the other two - neither should need it except to warn of impending problems due to bearing failure or loss of oil - and neither are exactly likely for either box, or easy to determine which is more likely.
On balance I would probably go for engine oil, but no strong preference.

My opinion only. Transmission temp would be up there. Given you have some performance mods.
High temps kill autos and towing and or beach work can make them quite toasty in the right conditions.
cheers
you have an auto.,
auto trans temp is the most important.
if you get the engine oil hot enough for that to be a problem you'll have other much bigger problems first.
the tcase is unlikely to over heat before an auto (in a manual its the other way around)

Didn't realise it was an auto - yes, I agree entirely with Dave!

Yeah sorry, I usually refer to slush boxes as transmissions and manuals as gearboxes. My lazyness.
Between the coolant temperature, EGT and oil pressure there is a fair indication of what is going on with the engine.
Any tips for fitting the temperature sensor into the automatic transmission? Does it just go into drain hole?
depends on what type it is...
My prefered position for the oil temp sensor is in the line that goes to the cooler.
