hi guys just bought my 1st lr defender 1995 tdi 130 dualcab, does any1 know weather there front wheel drive until engaged or rear?

Hey,
They are permenant 4wd all the time, but with an open diff in the transfer case that allows the front and rear to turn at different speeds should they need to.
Centre diff lock will lock this so drive is split evenly front and rear.
Further to the above replies, don't forget to lock the centre diff, when driving on low traction off road surfaces. Or else you will not proceed when any one wheel lacks traction (usually a front wheel).
Also spinning a wheel at speed with the centre diff unlocked can lead to rapid wear or failure.
