Thread: FYRLYT Driving Lights

Quality driving lights will move from vehicle to vehicle many times in most cases.

Quality lights wont get dust or water in them, turn black, rust of crack...

Quality lights put out exceptionally good light. Reducing fatigue.

I drive predominantly at night, in Roo filled areas, at full highway speeds..

Light punched out "everywhere" helps prevent strikes...

Its interesting that so many truck drivers are now switching to Fyrlyts....
Also interesting, is the feedback... Drivers changing lights the next morning because another driver demonstrated the Fyrlyts the night before.

Great lights are about fatigue management....

This might be the dumb question of the thread, but why would you want to run 24v globes and a transformer thingy? Why wouldn't you just put in 12v globes? Have I missed some vital point in all this?

    Cheers

Back when this thread was started, the globes were only available in 24v, as they were aimed at the trucking market.

In the last 12 months or so, a 12v version has since become available...

So, the missing link....... only the dates of the posts...

Problem however is US built trucks are 12v systems, European and a fair amount of Japanese depending on model are 24v.
They were missing the market on 80% of what is actually out there.

    Bit more to it also....

    150w @ 24v draws a lot less current....

And filament sizes can be changed too....

Yet in another driving light thread your alter ego (I suspect) claimed that lower current draw was not a real or tangible benefit with lights...

But it IS a benefit when engineering a product...

Cable size for higher voltages can be reduced.....

Do you know what Skuilnaam means? I laughed when I found out

    Also...

At the time there were no 12v 150w bulbs...

Fyrlyt worked very closely with Osram to come up with a suitable bulb to compliment their product.

Osram designed a globe with the required output, filament design etc to specifically suit the light with 12v operation.

Much more than 150w is currently impossible to achieve at 12v due to wiring size requirements etc within the Light.

In these situations its easier to step up to 24v and halve current (assuming no loss!)
