Thanks for the quick reply JC,
Would you also know what the thread type is on the sump bolt of a 300 tdi and on the drain bolt of the R380. I'm wanting to tap a little lt230 sump.
    Cheers,
    Serg

If you have a 15mm spanner size simp plug, it SHOULD be a M16, the 19mm spanner size sump plug has a M14 thread IIRC. The LT230 drain in the pre 1998/9 model (Should be a 17mm bolt head) is a Metric coarse, I think M14x1.25 ? and the later type LT230 has the same drain plug as the fill plug thread (1/2" square drive) and I'm not sure of the exact size, sorry.

(BTW, I am relying on my memory here, so I may be up the creek a little...)

    Thanks again,
Mine are 19mm dia thread for engine sump, not spanner size. And in the lt230 the fill and drain are the same. The spanner size on the R380 drain is 1 1/4. I'm wondering what the thinking is behind either a taper thread or a parrallel thread for a sump/ drain type situation.
