    reason for my noisy clutch...

Had a noisy clutch for a bout 2 week progressively getting worse (unfortunately as my only going car i had to occasionally use it - it was still surprising it died considering the lack of use I used it until a point where it was metal on metal) about the same time my other car got the rear windscreen put back in.

Pulled the box out heres the damage

other then adding more lube/soaking the bearing in oil. is there anything else i could do to make this bearing last longer.

Heard about a plug or something for doing water crossings?

Just put in a new thrust bearing; they have a lifespan and you exceeded it.
I wouldn't soak it in anything, it's packed with grease. Mostly they get replaced with the clutch because they are due about the same time.

I would expect more then 14 months out of it, that why i though it may have been premature wear

    adjustment

    Hi brend0n and People

That last picture looks to me as if the bearing has been in constant contact with the fingers.

Make sure that there is small amount of clearance when the clutch is disengaged, and the return spring is still doing its job.

If wrong parts have been used, then there is a bit of sorting out to be done.

    Cheers Arthur

    thanks guys.

From what i can tell from my one the top pic. the plastic only started melting when the bearing seized...

maybe it is my driving style but I don't ride the clutch and I've only ever owned manual vehicles, and had no other clutch wear issues in other cars...hmmm
    interesting

Clutch kit arrived so I'll chuck in the new one and see what happens in 14 months time

    Sorry Brendon,

    I missed your question.

Mine came from Rakeway in the UK but quite a few places do them at least for a td5. Devon 4x4 link below.
