Hi,
You were right on the money! one broken stud ( nearest the gearbox end)! I will take it to pieces this week, I have a few issues with stubborn bolts, one on the turbo and one on the AC compressor.
Thanks guys!

Damn, you solved it. It could have been burnout noise.

Hey Guys,
My TD5 is having the same squealing noise. It happens from about 2000-2500rpm in about 2nd-3rd gear, then the noise stops when i give it more acceleration. I have sprayed bent grip which didnt work. I havent had any power loss either.
Does this sound like the same symptoms as a cracked manifold?
I'm out at work for the next month so i cant check it out ATM.
thanks
Bjorn
Hey guys finally home from work.
I checked the exhaust manifolds for soot, nothing. Also had a good look at the pully idler, looks fine.
I was diving around and then put the air conditioner on and the noise stopped. The aircon worked fine and the loud squeeling from 2500-3000 stopped. I switched the aircon off on the next trip and more squeeling. Any tips of fixes to stop this?
After further investigation i've found soot around the exhast manifold. Broken stud. thanks for the help
