Unhappy squealing noise when accelerating TD5 Disco

My 2002 TD5 disco is making a sqealing noise when accelerating. it is not noticable if I accelerate really slowly and happens in a straight line.

Any suggestions what may be causing it?

    TIA

My first guess would be exhaust manifold gasket/studs, if you take off the plastic engine cover, and have a look at the rear (towards cabin)of the cyl head where it joins the manifold, see if you see a little soot,if you do, that's the problem!

Are you loosing power ? or is it just a noise..

Could be a bearing in a pulley , had my idler pulley seize on my TD5 and in the end the car wouldn't start.

Check you I/Cooler hoses for splits or similar.

power seems fine, it is just the noise that is of concern.

what is the best way to check pulleys/bearings? ~ just see if they are running freely?

Remove the main belt and spin them and see if they sound noisy.

Check your hoseclamps on the I/Cooler hoses as well.

"power seems fine, it is just the noise that is of concern"
There was no noticable power loss when I had the manifold stud go, just the squealing noise.
Bad news is the manifold has probably warped as well so will require machining.
My nech replaced all the studs with stainless ones, reckons he's never had to re-do a Td5 once this is done. I believe him, he is a well known Rover guru.

    Squealing TD5

Absolutely guaranteed to be the a warped manifold. Common as hens teeth. Interested to hear the stainless steel stud fix. Another one is to replace the 8mm studs at either end with 10mm ones - easy job there is plenty of meat in the head to tap it out and thread larger size. If you do this its really important to drill the corresponding manifold holes out to 11mm to allow for expansion movement of the manifold. Also drilling 10mm holes in webbing between manifold tubes also seems to help and yes absolutely essential to get manifold refaced.
