have you checked to make sure its not just the belt slipping......?

Also check that the uni joints on the steering shaft haven't seized, does the steering self centre OK ?

Certainly no squealing or other signs that the serpentine belt may be slipping. Doesn't have the lumpy feel of seized shaft uni joints, and the problem is intermittent, albeit getting more and more frequent. Vehicle drives beautifully except when parking or maneuvering at low speed.
I have a couple of dead power steering boxes waiting to go to the scrap man, might pull one apart and investigate what valving there is.

Intermettant and getting worse, again, check the unis

I had a similar problem which turned out to be a rusty/seized swivel pin.

also check that the track rod and drag link arent bent and rubbing anywhere.....

otherwise......if its all on a serpentine belt.....it sounds like a lazy or worn out pump.......
there is also a bleed screw on the top of the box you can crack open to see if theres any air.......

Thanks for the responses. I'll check all the suggested items. I'm fairly sure though that it is a lack of hydraulic assistance due to either the box or the pump, as there would be signs of the hydraulics laboring if it was a component binding downstream of the box. Might get a chance to check it over tomorrow arvo before going to work, will check the input unis, drag link etc. Will also check if the disco pump looks the same, wasn't such a difficult thing to remove. Be just my luck it is the box, I had to put a new one in my other Rangie just a couple of months back.
