hmm you probably could but if you were going to I would look at the off the shelf new ones you can get first as they are, well, new.
hey guys just wondering if it is possible to put the lucas 14cux in an 88 3.5 rrc. reason for asking is that flapper type afm seem to be harder and harder to find. and am thinking of switching to the hot wire system if possible. anyone got any experience with this conversion? expensive? thanks in advance

You would need an inlet manifold, loom, and ECU out of a Disco 3.5 or 3.9, and this probably would be pretty cheap from a wrecker. Remember these are pretty old now and the injectors are probably drooly and the sensors iffy.
You can get injectors from USA for about $150 a set.
I tend to think this is the best solution for you if you are not into sitting at a laptop tuning , or don't have the skills and desire to do it as you would have to do with say a Megasquirt.
Another alternative is to fit a Haltech,Motec or similar , but these would be much more expensive given the need for dyno tuning etc. I was quoted $3000 WIWO without fitting manifolds etc.
It is really not feasible to fit a modern ECU, as your engine has no provision for knock sensors, or the pulse generators required for EDIS. These can be fitted but everything costs.
The only problem you may have is that 14CUX usually has a Vehicle Speed Sensor, but this should be overcome OK.
All in all the 14CUX is a copy of one of the most popular injections of all time , the Bosch LE Jetronic which was really only superceded by Motronic to give individual injector conbtrol to reduce emissions.

If you do a search I had a thread a couple of years ago where I fitted a complete 3.9 and 14CUX injection into my 87 Rangie. There should be some information in that thread about the injection side of things. It is pretty easy to install, the hardest part would be swapping the intake manifolds over (assuming you aren't doing a complete engine change).
Just enter Mustang injectors in Ebay and look for Bosch gen11 or gen111.
The desriable ones are yellow.
I got a set of recod gen111 for $100.

Hi,
Thanks for the link, so these will replace my Lucas ones with no issues?
Rgds,

Surprisingly all D1/RRC injectors seem to be Bosch made, flapper or not. The injectors mentioned by PhilipA fit the later manifold to go with the hotwire injection system. The injectors fitted to the flapper EFI systems are mounted and connected differently. I believe they are the same as VL Commodore/early Skyline ones, as well as Jag and Rover SD1 ones. The later ones are far easier to replace with upgraded ones.
I just want to clarify the injector bit.
I have been using a set of pink Bosch gen11s for several years with no problems.
I just fitted a set of Yellow Gen111s along with a new cam etc and I have a problem with idle remaining high, even though I added another Oring to the bottom of the injector. I have not got to the bottom of it yet whether it is an air leak via an injector or something to do with the stepper.
Now a difference between Gen11 and gen 111 is that the Gen111 does not have a groove to hold the clip that is used in 14CUX to hold the injector in the proper position on the fuel rail so it can slip down and cause a fuel leak, hence an extra Oring on the bottom to hold it in position.
So if anyone is planning on buying new injectors soon, it may be safer to buy gen11 injectors as they are a direct replacement, and the sellers insist that they are the same operationally as gen111.
