    Turbo Upgrade TDI 300

Hello, I'm after any advise anyone might have concerning a TDI 300 turbo upgrade kit which MTQ Engines Australia supply. Please see the following like for more info.

    www.mtqes.com.au

Select Turbo kit for 4WD, and click on Defnnder/Discovery........The stats look really good.

If anyone has any experienance or heard anything about this conversion, I'd appreciate it!

x2, that looks good, any pricing info? Probably very exxy.

Tho probably easier than chasing a 200tdi manifold and turbo to suit kit?

Do a search, been discussed in the past and JC has fitted a few to customers cars, apparently works well.

I was quoted a price but it's from eight or so years ago so not really relevant now.

Have a look at allards in the UK also...

I think they have a new website... but do a search on google for them..

I know they do dedicated kits for the 300tdi

    Pricing of the MTQ's kit

Rang their branch in Sydney, and they can build me up a kit straight away for the price of $2414! It is a little more than I wanted, but for the extra power it would seem still worth the money.

Was looking to upgrade to a newer Defender, but did not want to let go of the old simple TDI 300.

    That sounds good.

Forgot to mention that the No. 1 and 4 exhaust manifold stubs are changeover, or at least used to be.
MTQ cast their own centre section to mate to the TD04 and remachine the other two pieces to fit the 2&3 centre.

Look for a 200Tdi manifold at a reasonable price, then you can look for a better turbo - perhaps a
a VNT ( as suggested ) .But you will need to change your fueling or you have wasted your time and energy ,
A vnt turbo will give more boost at lower rpm however for an improvement at the higher rpm you will need
to burn more fuel - the turbo upgrade will provide more air to burn the increased fuel more cleanly.
A higher air to fuel ratio will help your diesel run cooler too, and will drop your EGT.

Bruce Davis does a 200tdi Manifold Turbo upgrade , I looked into it a while ago , he has a
green disco at his work shop that you can take for a test drive. It drives completely different
to my disco and has so much more go you won't get too much change for $3k .

    Wholesale - GT2256V TurboCharger fit Mercedes Sprinter 2.7 OM612 | DHgate.com
This is the turbo out of the Brazilian 2.8. Do a search on here apparently a bolt on. May be a better option for $500ish plus fitting costs.

For a comparo here's the Tdi one
Wholesale - T250/ERR4893 Turbocharger for LANDROVER Defender Gemini | DHgate.com

I haven't dealt with these guys but have bought a lot of gear from DHGate and Alixpress in the past. Makes you choke at how badly we get shafted over here

    [snip]
Not quite a bolt on as the T250 uses a cast manifold/turbine wheel cover so you need to source a 200Tdi manifold or buy a manifold from MTQ, make an adapter for the air intake and fabricate a new dump pipe to match the existing exhaust.

The other alternative is to source an MWM HS2.8 exhaust manifold from Brazil.

The MTQ setup is a true bolt on and gives quite a bit of extra boost low down where the T250 lacks.
MTQ explained it to me as the TD04 is a much more efficient turbo and better matched to the engine
IIRC the kit also includes the pump/fuel adjustments to make.
JC has been very happy with the kits he's fitted, commenting that they work very well.

From what I understand MTQ do no wheel swapping either, it's a straight out of the box fitup and I think JC has listed the model number somewhere on here when i asked quite a few years ago.
I've bought a genuine MHI TD04 cartridge from OS recently at roughly 1/3 the price of sourcing it here so doing a search here and buying OS can save some $ and MTQ are prepared to just sell the manifold IIRC.
