It might help if you indicate what model car and what engine.
Hi All,
Pretty sure the timing belt went, had to get towed home.
I pulled the rocker cover, removed the rocker arm. One of the pushrods is bent, the associated valve seems to have suffered considerable damage. The valve is stuck down! The top flat bit has shattered.
What am I up for here?

On a 300TDi, when the belt lets go, it is rare that there is any damage other than bent push rods.
However...
From your description, it sounds as though you may have ended up with at least a bent valve!!Then, if the valve is bent & was trapped when the piston came up, you could have damage to the piston and/or damage to the valve guide!

IMHO - It sounds as though it's going to be worth getting the head off for an inspection.

Thats what I suspected, the head is only a few months old (did it myself as a project), I foolishly did not replace the timing belt.
What is the worst case scenario here?
Worst case would be:
New head
New timing belt
New (OS) piston(s)
New pushrods
New rocker arm
(Rebore of block to OS)
Plus associated bolts, bearings and gaskets
You won't know how much of the above you need until the head is off.
You probably re-used the belt because you probably thought it was okay after close inspection . Perhaps the belt is only the consequence , maybe there is another chicken in there and your belt was only the egg . Its very rare for timing belts that outwardly appear to be okay to have a sudden/random failure, Wait till you strip it down first , and then try to work out the chickens and the eggs !!Sometimes it aint the part , its the the person who fitted it !!!
