    HELP..Stage1V8 stalling issue

    Hi All,
Frustrating issue with my series III stage 1 V8.

Was running perfectly fine until yesterday when I found that after a few minutes running the engine would stall. Waited a few minutes and it would start again then a minute or two later it will stall and so on and so forth. It won't stay running for more than a couple of minutes before stalling.

Any ideas...the only thing I have done recently before the problem was to flush the radiator and top up the system with new coolant..

I have noticed a small seepage of coolant at the very front of the inlet manifold. Not sure if this is related or not

    Any help is appreciated

If you have checked the fuel line all the way back to the tank for blockages, check the charcoal cannister which is mounted on the inner left hand mudguard, A dirtyair filter here particularly when wet can prevent the carburetors from breathing.

Don't forget if it has the original fuel pump it too has a filter in it.
Undo the hex nut on the end to get to the filter, does it run out of fuel at higher revs?
I not is it getting progressively richer as it idles (noted by black smoke and rich burning exhaust) thus leading to it flooding and stalling.
Have you checked the diaphragms for splits?

    Thanks for the tips guys.

Will investigate further tonight. I did note that one of the carbs had no oil in the top and have topped up this morning. No time to test yet. Will have a look at the other suggested possibilities tonight.

No revving before it snuffs. No black smoke coming out back. Burns pretty clean from what I can see. No real smells at all either.

Being my first older car for 20 years I am finding it a little frustrating because I'm not familiar with the engine and those carbies scare the bejesus out of me.

UPDATE.... Checked again after topping up the oil in the carbie but it is still doing it.

On cold start it will run for several minutes until the engine warms up then it stalls. After that it won't start for a few goes but if you leave it a minute it starts again. Then after a minute or two it snuffs again.

    Perplexing to say the least....

Can't be the plugs cause I haven't touched them and it was running perfectly fine before the issue started.

Anyways it's off to the shop this morning for diagnosis. Will post results for future reference

Gawwwd, don't rush into these things, but be methodical instead. Believe me, I know. Most of these problems are the ignition, if it's fuel then it's the aforementioned fuel pump or filter - rarely the carbies. (In fact, you pretty much check them after everything else.) These carbies are beautifully simple but everything has to be spot on for them to work well. So you start with the ignition and when that's okay then you can worry about the carbies. Setting them up is simply following the steps in the manual. People seem to have trouble with them when they "wing it" with these carbies and try all sorts of things and just make it worse.

Anyway, have fun! (And I've just spent months sorting out mine! )
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

The guy at Canterbury Landrover said similar things about the carbies. I suppose the guys at work put me off fiddling with them.

Anyway the vehicle is at the shop getting checked over for anything I should need to attend to other than the above mentioned problem. I will do most of the work myself but I just don't have any testing gear or experience in diagnosing ignition issues and replacing things one by one until I find the issue seems a waste of Money.
