    OK diagnosis done.

good news is that it was as simple as a fuse which needed replacing.

Won't go into the Bad news

Many of us have been there. And for some reason keep coming back for more.

Hmmm . . . rusted out bulkhead? Or chassis? Brakes falling apart? Gearbox making expensive noises?

Not rusted bulkhead or chassis. Brakes ok, gearbox ok.....

All right I can see you're losing sleep over it too..

I noticed before handing it in for diagnosis that the number 8 cylinder was not firing and asked them to check it out for me. I thought maybe a dead spark plug. There was a fair bit of oil on it when I checked it. Funny thing the engine was still purring away even with the non firing cylinder.

Anyway it turns out that there is next to no compression in the cylinder and there is a valve at fault. I decided to bite the bullet and get the heads taken off and redone and everything that was looking tired replaced.

DIY is out of the question when it comes to engine and gearbox work as I don't really have the tools nor a workshop where I can leave parts lying around where the Mrs isn't going to be giving me the evil eyes.

So the wallet is going to take a hammering to start with but everything else is looking OK at this stage.

Once I get her back I will get some pics up so you can check her out. She's pretty tidy really and hopefully this will be the most I will have to spend for a little while

As Davo stated, ''we've all been there'' and many of us have probably uttered
these famous last words to ourselves and our better halves.
For the emotionally fragile, LandRover ownership requires that you always carry a pocket full of handkerchefs .

Ah, so in other words, "it's all normal"! It's an old, old car, so it sounds like you're not doing too badly.
