I change ALL oils and filters at 40K, (the main gearbox oil is optional at these KM depending on use of the vehicle, it is $60/l but only req 2.4l I ALWAYS change the main trans oil at 80K regardless). All the coolant and brake fluid flushed, the underbody tightened and greased, all brakes checked etc etc. I would hazard a guess and depending on the hourly rate charged at least $900 odd if trans oil is done.

You've just invested in a $60K vehicle, look after it.

While I'm on the Subject of servicing, when I picked up my new 2011 Defender, I recieved all the standard services and operating manuals. But in the service book, I do not have a schedule of items that should be done in an A Service, and a B Service.

I find this a little strange, as every other car, beit Ford or Toyota, have a comprehensive list of items that should be done to complete the service.

Is it a Land Rover secret?
Is it a separate booklet that I did not recieve?

I'm sick of the Dealership and want to use another mechanic. Defender is a fairly standard sort of Vehicle, so I guess the mechanic sees at 40,000km is the b service, so its a big one, so he automatically changes all fluids and checks everything??

Am I on the right track, or are I missing a schedule from my service books??

People like Ray at CMW there, etc , are like me in that we have a service interval we prefer to operate on, it is pretty standardized BUT every vehicle and owner is different. Flexibility in servicing a vehicle to the requirements of owner and vehicle is important, basically pay little attention to the factory service guide (except for timing belts etc etc which you don't have to worry about...) and service the vehicle according to its needs and owners use.

40K intervals are pretty much major services, at the 80K wheel bearings get serviced (Or earlier if hard use) and hub seals changed etc also.

There is a service schedule on another thread here someone has posted up, but if you find a good LR specialist workshop, they usually have their own.

Mate, take it to a Ford dealership and get them to do the service,or as JC said get an idependant to change everything which is pretty standard at 40K regardless of make. Pat
