My 03 rangie lost the unlock facicity on passengers rear door. I pulled the lock to see if anything easy to fix but I could'nt see what the problem was. I just bought a new lock $165. Will install tomorrow. Jim

Is the central locking actuator still working but not actually unlocking the door?
no noise when unlocking the door or movement of the locking button so presume the coil that does this is cactus. the rear door one does try and move and you can hear a noise so this one i believe is fixable

Was advised when I bought my '95 Classic, that the door-lock actuators were'nt over-specified for the job of operating a brand new, properly adjusted, dust-free & lubricated locking mechanism... Something to do with 'co$t'.
They should be considered a 'Regular Service' Item....- My LH pax door will lock, but not quite make it to the UN-lock position. - But sometimes it will if the engine is running. (A tad more Voltage)
I don't use the LH door, so I'm in no hurry to pull it apart![]()
Many people assume that the actuators are solenoids; they are in fact motor-driven geared arrangements; there's a timer in the master actuator that applies power for 1 second to all the slave actuators, which in turn have a small electric motor that moves a rack via a series of plastic gears.
Actuators that do nothing at all have a dead motor. Actuators that try but don't always make it, have a stripped gear (the pinion gear on the motor is brass, all the rest are plastic. The first plastic gear in the series will be partially stripped).
If you can get one from column A and one from column B, and match a working motor to a non-stripped cog, you will have fixed you central locking.
A search should bring up a detailed post I made on how these work- no prizes for guessing how I learned.
