Where might I get the tool/spanner/device to remove the fan.
Thanks

I bought a laser branded one on ebay, 32mm one end 36m the other
ebay (ex-UK) is the cheapest option. Mention where you are and you may be able to borrow one from someone local.
You don't actually have to remove your fan to get the intercooler out....It's a bit of a squeeze but doable....Just pull the radiator out of the bottom sockets and push back....Urban Panzer has a great tutorial on his website....www.discovery2.co.uk / Workshop / Intercooler Cleaninr

If you can weld and grind make one from 2 bits of flatbar, cut one with like a V that goes over that boss of the fan and holes that go around the heads of 2 of the bolts, then weld another bit on for a handle, easy as we made one for our 2001 td5
I picked up a set of spanners from Diff Lock in the UK. They are heavy so the shipping (£45 to Melbourne) pushes the landed price up considerably. I don't have access to a workshop to fabricate the additional bits and pieces to hold the fan so the set represented good value.

Its called a "spanner" and a Hammer. I got a 32MM from Supercheap, but don't know about 36MM.

Fair enough comment OffTrack...I've removed and refitted the I/C twice now...second time around I fitted a D2a I/C which is slightly larger and was a tad more difficult to get in....but still doable if one doesn't have a fan spanner. I agree it would no doubt be easier removing the fan but then again so would draining the coolant system and removing the radiator...
