Repairing series door handles (burst proof)
Hello all.
With the burst proof door latches on a series 3, can you remove and replace the handle itself? Where my handles attach to the shaft that goes inside the latch to actuate the door, the outside handle is loose and moves about an inch upwards before it actually starts to operate the mechanism. Still works but really annoying and rattles a bit too. I have a pair of spare ones with buggered latches (the C shaped part is worn) and have studied them carefully but can't see any way to seperate the handle from the whole mechanism, the handles look like one piece. Does the outer handle pull off or are they there to stay once fitted?
Can't justify the $140 price tag of new ones so possibly a small tack weld might be in order if they don't come off, but then I'd be worried about heating up the plastic coating on the handle too much.
Any tips for removing or fixing these?

if you do go the weld route, and it damaged the plastic coating, you could try some liquid electrical tape/tool dip to fix the plastic.
