Disco 1 Eaton E Locker due early 2012
Hi all,
For those interested, I spoke with Opposite Lock regarding a rear Eaton E Locker for my 95 300TDI Discovery and they said it wasn't available.
He then rang Harrop Engineering who said they're currently in the development stage and it should be available for purchase through Opposite Lock stores in the first quarter of 2012.
I have heard good reports on these units and figured that because it doesn't need an air compressor that it would be a cheaper way to go than a ARB unit, WRONG!!
$1595 for the unit and $400-$500 installation.!
ARB with compressor is $2000-$2100 installed.
No real cost benefit between the two and the ARB product has been proven, especially now with the upgraded unit, the RD128.
Whats the best way to go for a selectable rear locker?
Anyone know the cost of sourcing an ARB unit from the US and delivered to Melbourne?

In a word - trutrac. I, amongst other 300tdi owners, have had a trutrac for a few years now ( actually two - one in the front as well). Plenty of threads on the subject - and the cost of two shipped from the US to the east coast of Australia should still be around the $1200 mark. Putting them in is easy ( no drilling) and once they're in you don't know it until you need them.
For a 300tdi it's the more cost effective option. If you had traction control or a v8 maybe the other options you mentioned would be the go, but with the 300tdi the trutrac's work well.
There are limitations of course - it won't turn the tdi into a rockhopping monster or a go everywhere vehicle. But it's a vast improvement for a decent price.
