Paint on vehicle ID plates
I'm in the process of stripping a 1959 Series 2 for restoration, but the vehicle ID plates (the forerunner to compliance plates) have been sprayed over at some point in time when the vehicle was repainted. The serial number, being stamped, is still readable but all the other information is not.
Does anybody know whether the original printing on these plates is resistant to cellulose thinners, or whether there is any product that would remove the paint but leave the original printing on the plate?

Soak them in brake fluid to get the paint off - the original anodised label should be unaffected,
