    SERVICE CENTRES S/E MELBOURNE

    Hi all

Looking for a good honest no BS service centre that know everything there is to know about Range Rovers, especially the P38. Must have all the diagnostic equipment and able to perform a proper handbook service without charging the earth.

I know most of you have talked about Mornington Prestige, but seriously, are they as good as you all say they are? I've also found LRH in Frankston, has anyone been to them and would you recommend them. Another one i found was Prestige Automotive that service just about all the European prestige cars including LR, but would like to hear from anyone that has been there.

I'm not trying to shaft my current mechanic, but he hasn't got any of the required diagnostic equipment and has little trouble sourcing parts for LR at a reasonable price, plus any complex jobs he has to pass it on to someone else anyway, so i'm just trying to find someone that can do it all.

    Cheers

    A recommendation, fwiw..

Happy to take a spin up EastLink? If so, before you leave, give Greg Ellis at AMV a call on 9870 9904. He has all the gear, very good mechanical knowledge and is an enthusiast. His workshop people are pretty good, too. Having done his apprenticeship on all types of LR, you could well get the right info.

Thanks Pierre. I've just booked it in at LRH in Frankston as they're close to my place so i'll see how i go and will report back if good or bad. However will keep AMV on my list if i get burnt from LRH. This is LRH one only chance to proof themselves.

Mate, go see Mal at Mornington Prestige. Can't speak highly enough of him. He really knows his stuff & doesn't shaft you. Been going there for years & wouldn't go anywhere else. Top bloke too.

Mate go and see Mal at Mornington Prestige, he is as good as we say he is and he wont guts you out.

He knows more about Landies than most, has worked on them in one way or another for years.

He works on everything from your Series to top of the line Jags etc so I don't think you need to worry about what he knows.

I buy most of my parts through him as he gets them for me normally cheaper than I can source them on Ebay so parts are not a problem there either.

Give him a go as I have never heard a bad word about him or his work and I've known him for 5 years or more now.

    Cheers Casper

WOW, some good recommendation here from both AMV & Mornington prestige.

Ok, i've just come back from LRH in Frankston from a scheduled 10,000km service and the impression is mixed.

On the Positive: The service they carried out was quiet good in the sense that you can feel the difference as soon as you drive it out of his work shop i.e brakes adjusted, tighter steering, smoother engine running ( with my engine oil provided), and fixed the rear LH airbag that had popped out of it's seal. So generally not a bad service at all and quiet cheap too for $127. He also checked the condition of the brake fluid, coolant and brakes.

On the Negative: Didn't carry out the full log book service to the point where he would stamp & sign the log book. Now i would have somewhat expected a logbook service from a service centre that classes themselves as a Land Rover specialist as well as a Volvo one, so little disappointed there as i'm trying to keep my service record complete. Plus he was the only mechanic working there today which then took him nearly half a day to do a basic service.

So would i go back there??........................Probably not based on the fact that a thorough log book service wasn't automatically done. Having said that, he did offer to get back to me with a quote for me to take the vehicle back for the log book service, and i'm thinking.......nup. If i didn't ask nor was i mechanically minded, i wouldn't have known. So you'd expect to get the best honest advice without having to ask the question. Looks like Mornington Prestige might be the next stop mainly due to the closeness to my place and the positive notes from everyone, but definitely won't be ruling out AMV either if I'm in the area, i will give them a go.

    So that's my analysis.

I do have to point out that i have a zero tolerance when it comes to vehicle servicing and will only give a new service centre 1 chance and 1 chance only. If they try to pull a fast one by me, or i don't feel that they have done the job to a satisfactory minimum standard in any way or form i.e not do anything to the vehicle or non-quality parts, then that's the last they'll see of me. It is also a matter of trust to me, if i cannot establish a trustworthy relation with the mechanic shop, then that's another reason not to go. If an honest mistake has been, then i'll usually allow for that once, maybe twice but that's about it.
