After replacing the head gaskets on my V8 D2 with sequential gas, fitting the heads, reconnection the gas, replacing the ignition leads and new rocker gaskets, and putting the plenum back on and bolting everything back, like the alt brackets, compressor and bracket and ace and power steering pump. Then when fitting the spark plugs on the passenger bank and reaching for the ignition lead ends, Crickey can only find 3 leads.with the limited room with all the gas gear on the side, I feel for it with nibble finger only to discover it is clamped at the firewall and under the rocker cover gasket. Now it any one has worked on a V8, the inner rocker cover bolts are hidden by the plenum body, so I had to strip it all back again just to clear the lead.
When I bought the Disco, it had a lead from the left rocker cover, seems the previous person working on it had the same problem and left the lead there and just cut the ends off and fitted a replacement lead.
Whilst doing the left hand side exhaust manifold gasket, the gasket fell, Never to be seen again, I lost a long rocker cover retainer screw, a spacer from the exhaust bolt, and a 16 mm Impact socket. All of these items disappeared into the bowels of the engine bay and probably wedged themselves into of some chassis nook and cranny.![]()
I cracked it for today and will work on it again tomorrow when I'm less tired and not so sore. Just not my day!hopefully day 4 working on it will be less painful.
And just another problem, after fitting the valley gasket and I sealed the the end seals with a land rover RTV, on the cartridge it said, skins in X amount of time and full cure in 24hours. Well 2 days later it still fells like it skinned but tacky, Now this has got me worried, as I would have expected it to go harder
