    TD5 Decat pipes are you allowed

    Hello from the UK

    I am just looking at Ebay and thinking of listing TD5 decat pipes for sale in OZ can any one confirm if you are ok to remove the cat or not.
    Here in the UK it is normal pratice to remove the cat and egr system on diesel vehicles.

    Thanks for your help (I do not use forums often so if I am not ok to ask this please tell me)

    by the letter of the law, no you are not allowed to remove the CAT...

    however up untill about 2004/5 the TD5 emissions are above the standard required in AUS without a CAT fitted to it...


    you are also not legally supposed to remove or interfere with the EGR system.

    And to add to what Dave said, 99.9% of Td5 owners DON'T need to remove the CAT as it has very little bearing on performance at all. Unless you are caning the engine to 9/10ths of its output all the time it offers no advantage in removal.
    And yes, it IS illegal to tamper with and remove a CAT on ANY vehicle sold new in this country with it fitted, whether it meets emissions levels or not.

    but non of that should stop you from being able to sell your product to the local market, just like the egr blank kits available.
