    What about self levelling headlights?

Similar to the headlights in a D2a with self levelling motors, would remove the need for self levelling suspension I would assume.

That might be what he meant as well.

I've always thought the ideas behind 'Passing' or 'Low' beam was to put enough light on the road to see where it was, on my side preferably, but not to dazzle/infuriate the oncoming driver , so he also may see his side of the road... for those short moments when we're approaching/passing.

After which we're free to strike up miniature suns and blind possums a mile down the road...

What happened to the original idea of mutual Consideration ? I suppose I could use the Australian term of 'A Fair Go', even if National Pride is on the wane.

Dazzled moths always turn towards the brightest lights...

I have HID lights in all my cars. The first set i fitted in the county probley 5 years ago, and in that time i have never had any complaints about glare or 'dazzle' from other drivers, neither have i been flashed while on low beam.
The only comment ever was by a co-worker who said that he knew it was me by the colour (6000k).

When i installed the lights, i spent plenty of time making sure they were correctly adjusted, and this is the most important thing with ANY lights, HID, LED or candlestick sealed beams.

They are illegal. ADRs have several rules which i read through a year ago about self leveling suspension (or headlight leveling - svx) etc, but the one the rule that is the hardest to get around was - "lights must be stamped with an E4 rating". Not even a P38 can get by that.

In all, my opinion is to fit them, adjust them correctly, dont tailgate, dont drive like a tool or draw attention to yourself and you will be rewarded with something that may save your or someone elses life.

    Andy.

PS, i have had the cheap and expensive kits, both were good and couldnt tell the difference.

pps. i also have fantasies about smashing others headlights that cannot be bothered to adjust them.

It amazes me that so many people want brighter and brighter headlights and so many tools drive around the suburbs with their supposed fog lights on (day and night), many of which are more like spotties and our eyes haven't evolved over the years to accommodate the additional glare produced by the ever changing lighting systems.

You may or may not know that as we age we lose the receptors in our eyes that enable night vision quicker than daylight receptors.

I know that I at 62 need far more light on the road to have the same vision as I had 30 years ago. I currently run 130/100s but would fit HID in an instant if I thought they would help without attracting undue attention or causing angst.

So I guess it is natural for many members on this forum to want brighter lights , as many are getting older.

Hmmm, maybe we 'maturing ones' are also less tolerant of glare... 'cos we recover less quickly.

(More light = smaller pupil, which means greater depth of field, therefore our eyes don't need to focus EXACTLY as we track differing distances... = less fatigue = Happy Chappy.)

Or possibly just get grumpier with age.

I really don't mind how much light the goes on the road, just can't stand it up and in my eyes.
