    Maxidrive D1 -> RRC

    Hi guys, found myself a maxidrive locker from a D1 to put in my RRC, just a couple of questions to start off as I've had conflicting information.

    How does the lamp wire up? I understand that it will be earthed somehow by the actuator, but where? Is it at the little stud hanging out of the actuator?

    With regards to D1/RRC axle interchangeability, what do I need to swap from the D1 housing to my RRC housing? My shock mounts are opposing as I have a 2 door and don't want to drill holes in the rails just yet, so I want to put the Maxidrive internals into my existing housing. From what I can see I will need to swap the hubs over (D1 is narrower than RRC) but is there anything else?

    Thanks for any info!

    I fitted a MaxiDrive from a D1 into my RRC.

    However, I swapped the whole rear axle assembly which, as you said, required moving the shock mounts. I fitted D1 shock mounts with the nuts to replace the RRC units which used a split pin retainer.

    I also had to change the propshaft as the D1 used the Rotoflex coupling.

    My old RRC rear axle assembly and propshaft went into the D1.

    I don't remember about the light.

    D1 will fit except for shock mount and maybe brake caliper bolt diameter - from memory we could not fit disco calipers to 86 rangie axle housings so your rangie caliper bolts might not fit the disco hub

    Easy fix is take the calipers with the maxi axle from the donor Disco - fit and bleed lines on RRC

    Holes in chassis for shocks are easy - need to sleeve With crush tubes - make a template from other side of car to get position right - any shop can do in half and hour - much easier than cutting and welding axle housing for maxi

    Forgot to mention that the housing in the car now has already been cut and welded for a maxi.

    I just replaced the whole housing not long ago (read 2 weeks) and really can't be bothered getting that heavy ass thing out again. Would rather just swap bits over if possible.

    Cheers

    I have 98 D1 calipers on a pre 85 RRC housing with no issues, I believe the issue is with the brake lines D1 and RRC have different sizes I'm told

    biggest drama I had was D1 trailing arms onto the RRC housing
